Fun wishes

Well, the girls go back to school starting bright and early tomorrow morning. We have had a wonderful 2 week break and have loved sleeping in, eating treats, playing games, watching movies and eating some more! We focused less this year on Christmas presents under the tree and more on making fun family memories. So, we asked each kid what activity they wanted us to do as a family and here is the rundown...

On Monday we took the kids shopping at Target where they each got to spend their gift card from Grandma and Grandpa Christensen. (Emma's wish)

On Tuesday we took the kids to the movie theater to see High School Musical 3. (I have found a cheap theater...only 75 cents on Tuesdays!!! Yes, the floor is sticky and when I sat down, I realized the seat was wet...hopefully from pop...but still, only $4.50 for my whole family!) (Evi's wish)

On Wednesday we took the kids ice skating. (Ashlyn's wish) Ash was excited because, in her words, she "fell down like 105 times last time we went and this time only fell down 5!"

On Thursday we drove to a state park about an hour from home and went hiking along the trails. It was a beautiful day and we walked through quiet woods full of trees and brown leaves on the ground. (My wish)

On Friday we went to Ikea and had breakfast at the restaurant. (Again, the cheapness in me prompted that...only 99 cents for bacon, really yummy scrambled eggs and delicious breakfast potatoes. $6 for my whole family to get stuffed!) Then we walked around the store and looked at shelves and stuff for organizing closets, etc.

Last week we took the kids to Amazing Jakes, an all you can eat buffet with a movie room, go-karts, bumper cars, kiddie rides, etc. We spent most the the day there eating and playing.

Probably my favorite memory is when we played "Zoo" as a family. It is a fun game and doesn't require any pieces or equipment...just people. One of us would mess up the rhythm of the beat and everyone would start giggling. Ash especially. She has inherited Tom's laugh. She would start belling-laughing and roll backward in giggles which would start all of us laughing. What fun memories. I am so grateful for the blessings of family, love, friends, belief, health and peace.

It sounds like you had a lot of fun. I like that idea alot. My kids tend to get too wrapped up in what they get in December that we lose the whole meaning. My two oldest birthday's are then too so we have alot of opening gifts.

What part of Texas are you in? My parents still live down near Houston.

I love it Kate! It sounds like you had a great week making memories. Maybe we'll do this one next year.
